Creators of AI child sex abuse images face up to five years in prison under crackdown

UK to be first country to make owning artificial intelligence tools designed to make images of child sexual abuse illegal

The UK government is introducing legislation to make it illegal to own AI tools designed to create child sexual abuse images. This will be the first law of its kind globally, carrying a potential prison sentence of up to five years. The government aims to combat the increasing use of AI by abusers to generate fake images, "nudeify" real children in images, or stitch children's faces onto existing abuse material, which can then be used for blackmail and lead to real-world offenses. Essentially, the law seeks to stop the creation and possession of AI-generated child sexual abuse material before it can cause further harm.
